Education:

Does extracurricular study help students?

- Yes, studies show that extracurricular activities provide a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom which leads to academic success. A common belief is that a student's success in learning comes from a student's own individual talent and merit alone. However, a student's own ability can be further developed and enhanced through additional quality education outside of the classroom setting.

Why is academic success so important?

- Canadians who do not possess highschool diploma earn 22% less than those who do. Additionally, students who graduated from postsecondary insitutions have an employment rate of 30 percentage points higher than those who do not have a high school diploma.

Moreover, the result of academic success provides confidence and a mindset that they can achieve whatever they put their mind to.

quality:

- All volunteer teachers are either enrolled or have graduated from Canadian universities and are familiar with the Canadian education system. They can teach subjects meeting school standards as well as provide mentorship for students to pursue post-secondary education.

- We teach all highschool subjects. We have volunteer teachers from all faculties, from English to STEM majors, so we assign teachers according to each student's needs.

- The program is running even during summer vacation to allow for students to prepare for next year's education or take time to review subjects that they struggled with during the previous school year.

- Our volunteer teachers are long-term so that students will have the same teacher for an extended period of time in order to build a good relationship and guide them as they grow in both their personal and academic lives.

service:

Our program is running all year and as we believe every child has the right for education, the program is completely FREE of charge. Our focus is to provide high-quality education for students who are from low-income families to provide equal access to all children.

Once a student is registered, there will be a class every week. Each class is 1-hour long and they are taught through online Zoom sessions 1-on-1 with a teacher. Students can ask for help on their homework/assignments or learn subjects that they are interested in.

Chung Ill Children’s Meals:

In memory of our organization’s long time supporter, Chung Ill Lee, we are in the midst of launching a new program called “Chung Ill Children’s Meals” that will provide financial coverage for students enrolled in school meal plans within the region of East Hastings. Along with funds, we will also offer them free after-school educational support.
